The School of
Nursing under the aegis of the Institute of Naval Medicine
is a premier Institution, and the only one of its kind in
the Indian Navy, conducting a 3 year General Nursing &
Midwifery Course, on completion of which the students are
commissioned as Lieutenants in the Military Nursing Service.
Established in the year 1963 the School is credited to have
trained 734 Nursing Officers who are employed both in India
and abroad. So far 33 batches of Probationer Nurses have
graduated from the school.
The year 2004 witnessed 2 important events in the school.
The Commissioning Ceremony of batch No. 33 of School of
Nursing was held at PN Mess on 11 May 2004. The Chief Guest
for the occasion was Surg. Rear Adm P Sivadas, AVSM, Command
Medical Officer, Headquarters Western Naval Command. The
highlight of this year’s passing out Parade was the new
uniform that the students were commissioned in.
The 36th batch Probationer Nurses were enrolled in Aug 2003.
They were initiated into the Nursing Profession by way of
the Lamp Lighting Ceremony on 14 Feb 2004 during which the
students took the Florence Nightingale oath and pledged
their commitment to patient care. The function was presided
over by Surg. Rear Adm P Sivadas, AVSM, Command Medical
Officer, Headquarters, Western Naval Command.
