Assistance was rendered by the Navy to the Oil Rig
'Sagar Vijay' which had broken anchor
during a severe storm, 60 miles off Mumbai in June 96. Naval Helicopters rescued personnel who were
aboard the Tahara production platform which had broken anchor. Assistance was also provided to rescue the entire crew of an Ukranian ship MV Romeshka, which was grounded off Mumbai in June 96. The Coast Guard responded to a request from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration in Jan/Feb 96 and apprehended 10 vessels with 62 crew of Myanmar origin who were engaged in illegal poaching.
