Search and Rescue at Sea ...

The Navy also provided assistance in search and rescue operations to ONGC in recovering one dead body and pieces of wreckage of an ONGC Dolphin Helicopter with two crew which ditched in the sea near Oil Rig Sagar Jyoti, west of Mumbai harbour in May 97. Rescue and search operation was also undertaken by the Navy when a merchant ship 'Arcadia Pride' with 33 crew members sank on June 19, 1997, seven nautical mile west of Mumbai. 9 persons were rescued and 4 bodies were recovered. Naval helicopters also evacuated all the 19 crew members of MV Sea Express, registered at Kingston Jamaica, which had reported flooding. The Master and the Chief Engineer of the ship were Pakistani nationals.
