RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY INDIAN NAVY

As of today a total of 16 ships, 10 helicopters and 4 fixed wing aircraft of the Indian Navy are engaged in the Tsunami rehabilitation operations. In addition, the naval bases located near the Tsunami hit areas have been rendering immense contribution towards expediting the process of restoring normalcy.  Over 2500 Indian Naval personnel are committed to these operations.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Op SEA WAVES)

IN Ships Sandhayak and LCU 34 are carrying out beach survey off Katchal Island.

IN LCU 38, at Tarasa, is carrying out beach survey off Safed Balu Village.

INS Tillangchang, off Kamorta, is carrying out relief efforts.

INS Darshak (with Chetak helecopter), off Nancowry carried out aerial recce and survey alongwith Survey of India Teams.

INS Trinkat, off Carnic, are engaged in relief operations.

Kanyakumari

       INS Nirdeshak is carrying out survey off Kolachal and Kanyakumari.

Assistance to Sri Lanka (Op RAINBOW)

Galle

INS Taragiri provided food, water and relief material at Dudanduva. The ship set up a medical camp Dudanduva and Closenberg hotel examined and treated about 300 patients. Other jobs  undertaken by the ship are as follows :-

Colombo

INS Sutlej and ICGS Samar, at Colombo, are de-inducting the 4021 Field Ambulance  and medical teams deployed at Ampara and Batticaloa.

Trincomalee

INS Jamuna continues to be at Trincomalee for providing medical treatment and to coordinate relief operations. Relief and medical efforts in camps at Kuchuveli, Nelaveli and Uppaveli are continuing. The ship has also undertaken the task of making well water potable.

Aircraft Detachment One Dornier and one Islander aircraft the Indian Navy are operating from Colombo.

Relief Assistance to Maldives (Op CASTOR)

INS Udaygiri is at Male for providing relief assistance. The ship has one Chetak helecopter embarked onboard.
