INTEGRATED HEADQUARTERS OF MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (NAVY)
RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY INDIAN NAVY
As of today a total of 17 ships, 8 helicopters and 4 fixed wing aircraft of the Indian Navy are engaged in the Tsunami rehabilitation operations. In addition, the naval bases located near the Tsunami hit areas have been rendering immense contribution towards expediting the process of restoring normalcy. Over 3000 Indian Naval personnel are committed to these operations.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Op SEA WAVES)
IN LCU 34 is carrying out beach survey off Katchal Island.
IN LCU 38 is disembarking relief stores Kamorta.
INS Tillangchang
, off Katchal, is carrying out relief efforts.INS Sandhayak (with Chetak helecopter), with DGLH staff onboard, is carrying out repairs of light houses in Southern Group of Islands. Katchal,(West Bay), Cape Cannought and Pilow Millow lights have been repaired and are fully operational.Kapanga and Kabra Lights being beyond repairs, have been destroyed.
INS Darshak (with Chetak helecopter), off Diglipur, surveyed the Northern Group of Islands, provided logistic support to Chakshu Det (East Island) and carried out aerial recce.
IN Ships Cheetah and LCU 39, off Carnic, are engaged in de-induction of Army troops.
Assistance to Sri Lanka (Op RAINBOW)
INS Taragiri's provided food, water and relief material at Dudenduva. The ship set up a medical camp and attended to 180 patients. Other jobs undertaken by the ship are as follows :-Galle
The Army composite team has been augmented by personnel from the ship for construction of cooking and sanitary facilities at Televetha campsite.
Preparatory work for the campsite at two locations at Kahawe is in progress.
Nine contaminated wells have been cleaned and restored at Seenigama village.
Colombo
ICGS Samar, at Colombo, is engaged in disembarkation of the ‘Alum’.
Trincomalee
INS Jamuna continues to be at Trincomalee for providing medical treatment and to coordinate relief operations. Relief and medical efforts in camps at Kuchuveli, Nelaveli and Uppaveli are continuing. The ship has also undertaken the task of making well water potable.Aircraft Detachment One Dornier and one Islander aircraft the Indian Navy are operating from Colombo.
Relief Assistance to Maldives (Op CASTOR)
.ICGS Vigraha is engaged in disembarkation of relief material off South and North Nilandhe Atoll of southern group of Maldives
