INTEGRATED HEADQUARTERS OF MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (NAVY)
RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY INDIAN NAVY
As of today a total of 22 ships, 13 helicopters and 4 fixed wing aircraft of the Indian Navy are engaged in the Tsunami rehabilitation operations. In addition, the naval bases located near the Tsunami hit areas have been rendering immense contribution towards expediting the process of restoring normalcy. Over 4300 Indian Naval personnel are committed to these operations. Approximately 70 Tons of relief supplies (like Tents, Gensets, Desalination Plants, Blankets, etc), and Four Tons of medicines have been delivered by the naval ships and aircraft to the affected areas in the past 24 hours.
Chennai (Op Madad)
Diving operations and salvage of sunken barge (off West Quay) by the Indian Naval Diving Team are in progress at Chennai.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Op SEA WAVES)
INS Rajput, launched helecopter for aerial recce of GNI. The helecopter then de-inducted a search party of 12 personnel from the A & N Environment Rescue and Forest Dept from Indira Point to Campbell Bay. The search party has reported that the search for the scientists was unsuccessful. An assessment of damage to the vegetation, and the likely height of Tsunami waves ( assessed to be between 40 and 60 feet) was also done.
INS Tillangchang, at Nancowry, is continuing with distribution of relief supplies to different islands.
INS Cheetah, at Hut Bay, is disembarking relief stores.
IN LCU 36, at Nancowry, is disembarking fresh provisions after completing her task at Hut Bay.
INS Sandhayak (with Chetak helecopter) is engaged in repair of navigational aids / lights in the Southern Group of Islands.
INS Darshak (with Chetak) is assisting the Survey of India for carrying survey of the Northern Group of Islands.
Assistance to Sri Lanka (Op RAINBOW)
INS Sharda (OPV), with Chetak helecopter embarked, is at Galle and is coordinating the relief activities ashore. Rehabilitation Work A team from the ship with Army engineers cleared debris at Telavatha relief camp and provided assistance for shifting of construction material for one each cook house under construction at Televatha and Ratagama.Galle
Colombo
INS Nirdeshak
disembarked 70 tons of relief supplies for distribution at Ampara.INS Sarvekshak has completed setting up of the DGPS station and reported commencement of tidal observations in Kankesanturai harbour. Survey of the harbour using side-scan sonar is in progress.
Islander One Islander aircraft if the Indian Navy, based at Colombo, ferried United Nations Disaster Action Committee (UNDAC) official from Batticaloa to Ratmalana.
Trincomalee
INS Jamuna continues to be at Trincomalee for providing medical treatment to the affected people and to coordinate relief operations ashore. Two wells of Irakerni were cleaned, chlorinated and made potable; four wells in Kasim Nagar and Jaya Nagar were pumped out and chlorinated by the team.Relief Assistance to Maldives (Op CASTOR)
ICGS Vigraha and one Dornier aircraft continues to be deployed in Maldives to support relief operations at various islands. The ship embarked relief material comprising packaged food, water and water storage tanks for Havadhoo Atoll (Southern Atoll).
Indonesia (Op GAMBHIR)
(Hospital Ship) with Chetak helecopter, off Meulaboh (Indonesia), has disembarked a Medical team for relief/ medical efforts. 160 patients were attended by the team.INS Nirupak
