 VICE ADMIRAL SANJEEV BHASIN

WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND

 

 

1.  Vice Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin is a graduate of the 38th NDA Course and was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1972. A specialist in Navigation and Aircraft Direction he has served as Navigating officer on a variety of Fleet ships. After completing his specialist tenures, he was posted as Squadron Commander at the Nigerian Naval Academy at Port Harcourt. He has the unique distinction of Commissioning two ships as the Commanding Officer, the missile corvette INS Khukri and the Guided Missile destroyer, INS Mumbai. The Admiral has also commanded the missile destroyer, INS Ranjit and served as Fleet Operations Officer, Western Fleet. On promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral on 01 Jan 02, the Flag Officer served as ACOP(HRD) at NHQ, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command and Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Fleet. Thereafter he was appointed Director General Seabird (Karwar Naval Base) where he was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral on 01 Nov 06. Thereafter he took over as Deputy Chief Integrated Defence Staff at HQ Integrated Defence Staff in Jan 07. After his tenure at HQIDS the Admiral took over as Commandant of National Defence College on 01 Oct 2007. On 01 Jan 09 he shifted to Naval Headquarters as OSD to CNS before being appointed as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prestigious Western Naval Command.


2.   Admiral Bhasin?s other appointments have been a mix of operational, training and personnel-related appointments at all levels. The Admiral is a graduate of the United States Naval War College and College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai.

3.   For distinguished services of exceptional order, the Flag Officer has been awarded with Vishisht Seva Medal in 2003 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2006.
