ROLE
The yard undertakes refit of Indian Naval ships and submarines based at Mumbai. The overall functions include:-
- Refit of Ships and Submarines
- Repairs and maintenance support to operational ships.
- Arranging dry-docking of ships in commercial docks when Naval Drydocks are not available.
- Berthing and movement of ships.
- Repairs to repairable inventory of Materials Organisation, Mumbai
- Maintenance support to outlying units of Western Naval Command (WNC)
- Meeting any special requirements of WNC and National Headquarters (NHQ).
- Upkeep of own plant machinary and building and marine assets.
- Providing shore based services to ships.
- Maintenance of yard services and crafts.
- Plan and execute progressive improvements in maintenance facilities.
- Use facilities, such as laboratory and non-destructive testing for analysis and materials and the development of equipment components of stores.
- Utilise the Dockyard's spare capacity profitably, by undertaking suitable work for non-naval vessels, for other Government Departments as well as for public and private enterprise on suitable payments.
- Train apprentices in the Dockyard Apprentice School (DAS) as per the statutory regulations enforced by the Central and State Government.
- Maintenance / upkeeping of Naval Civilian Colony at Mumbai.
- Maintenance / upkeeping of Naval Civilian Hospitals.
- Own security and fire fighting service.
