The
Coast Guard also rendered assistance during the
cyclonic storm in the East Coast in Jan 96 and
Nov 96. Due to the assistance of the Coast Guard
many boats with crew members could be located
and safely returned to Land. The Coast Guard
helped the West Bengal authorities in securing
the release of Indian fishermen who were held
hostages by pirates in the Sundarban area.
