NCC RALLY TO ‘SAVE THE GIRL CHILD’

Mumbai – 06 Aug 08

The Maharashtra NCC Directorate organized a ‘Save the Girl Child’ rally.  NCC cadets from different schools and colleges in and around Mumbai took part in the rally despite weather playing spoil sport with occasional showers. These showers could not dampen the spirits of the 1300-odd Cadets including boys and girls from both the senior and the junior divisions NCC. The rally was flagged off from Oval Maidan and meandering through the Marine drive, terminated at Cross Maidan.  Apart from the rally, tableaus to highlight the issue were placed all along the Marine Drive.  Street plays were also held at Cross Maidan, Flora Fountain and Gateway of India to highlight the theme of the campaign ‘Save the girl child’.

An oath was taken by all cadets at Cross Maidan.  Dr Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice Chancellor, SNDT University, was the Chief Guest for the function.  Brigadier Mahesh Mathur, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate Maharashtra was also present to grace the occasion and motivate the cadets.

This noble social initiative by NCC cadets should serve as a clarion call to all citizens to give the girl child her due in society.
